Episode Summary
iEcclesia wraps up another successful season with an episode on an important initiative for Orthodox youth. Camp Metamorphosis or “Camp Met” as it has come to be affectionately referred to by the campers who participate, is a one week camp program designed to reach out to youth. The camp mission statement clearly states: "to gather our Orthodox youth for a session during which they will be able to enjoy Orthodox Christian fellowship with one another and grow in the faith through participation in sessions and activities which are rooted in the Orthodox tradition and faith. "The Goal is to have each camper return to their home with a greater understanding and appreciation of their faith and culture and in turn become more faithful and active members of the Orthodox Church. The first part of the program features host Tim Prattas and guest Theologos Drakos, Director of Camp Metamorphosis. The program begins with Fr. Theo defining what Camp Metamorphosis is and describes its role and purpose. Also, our guest speaks about the history of Camp Met. Next, our guest tells us what greatest benefit for those who attend the camps. Fr. Theo talks about the schedule and programs and activities featured during Camp Met. He continues with his most memorable experiences during his time at Camp Met. He then offers advice to potential campers and counselors thinking of attending Camp Met. The second part of the program continues with a panel from Camp Metamorphosis Winnipeg. Host Tim Prattas begins by asking the panel how they found out about Camp Met and why they decided to attend. Next, the panel discuss the religious services performed at Camp Met from the perspective of the campers as well as the clergy who attend. Next, the panel describes the Orthodox life at Camp Met and a thought from the campers as to what they would like to see at future camps. The program concludes with the panel answering whether Camp Met has helped with their relationship with Christ .
What you should know about Camp Metamorphosis (Ontario):
- This year, Camp Metamorphosis in Ontario takes place from June 28th - July 4th.
- It is open to youth ages 10 – 18
- It will be held at Deer Lake Christian Centre (South River, Ontario).
- The cost is $420 (including tax)
- It will be held at Camp Veselka (2kms north of Gimli, Manitoba). - Early Bird Registration (July 15th): First Child: $225, Second Child: $225, Third or more: FREE! - Late Registration (July 15th – Aug 9th): First Child: $250, Second Child: $250, Third or more: FREE! - $50 per day for partial stays.
