Episode Summary The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Cross on September 14 and iEcclesia looks at it's importance to the faith as an instrument of salvation. The Cross was, at first, a symbol that was associated with torture, suffering and death. A symbol that has been transfigured to be associated with victory, life, servanthood and joy. Host Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos and guest Rev. Dr. John Behr begin the discussion with a history of the Cross and its use in the Roman world and its significance as a symbol is described. The conversation continues with discussing the interconnection between the Cross and the Resurrection of Christ. Also discussed are the various feast days of the Cross celebrated throughout the year and their significance today. Dr. Behr concludes the program with some final thoughts.
