Episode Summary Whenever someone walks into an Orthodox Church, their senses are overwhelmed. This is especially true during Great Lent and Holy Week in particular. There are an increased number of services and the atmosphere is solemn due to the sadness of the week but, at the same time, anticipation for the joyous and glorious resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The sense of sight is overwhelmed with the beautiful iconography displayed during the Holy Week. Icons help us to focus and bring us into the presence of the persons and events that are depicted in them. Dramatic images of the last events of the Lord's passion, crucifixion and resurrection stir up many emotions.
Join us this week as we continue our Lenten journey with Joyful Sorrow with Style and Color: Iconography of Holy Week
