Episode Summary iEcclesia begins a multi-part episode on this very sensitive topic. Host Patricia Rakopoulos, along with Fr. Peter Avgeropoulos and Fr. Bohdan Hladio discuss an issue that affects people for a variety of reasons. It affects people of all ages, races, faith backgrounds and social status. While some are completely opposed to it, others are indifferent, while others still are so-called “compassionate” in this debate, and help those who want to go through with it. It’s something that we’ve all seen teenagers and young adults falling victim to too many times. Suicide is a topic that is mentioned in the Bible, by the Church Fathers, doctors, psychiatrists and even Dr. Phil and Oprah. It’s a sad end to the wonderful gift of life. Yet, a healthy debate ensues when discussing this topic – both from an ecclesiastical point of view and a post-modern point of view. “It’s my life… I want to take it” is something many people would say in support of something the Church calls “sinful”. So, the question is: “Suicide: Is it your life to lose?”
